Hakuna Matata Private Safari

Duration

8 days

From

$2430.00

Imagine yourself in the heart of Tanzania, the rising sun lighting up the golden savannah, birdsong accompanying the rustling wind in the tall grasses, and you perched in a private safari 4×4, on the lookout for a solitary elephant, an invisible cheetah or even the majestic Big Five gathered in the same panorama; this Hakuna Matata Private Safari journey is simply an invitation to wonder. Over eight days and seven nights, you cross mythical parks (Manyara, Ngorongoro, Serengeti, Tarangire), each with its own unique atmosphere and breathtaking wilderness. You sleep in carefully selected lodges, sometimes under a charming tent, always lulled by the wild life – hyenas in the distance, hippos in peaceful ponds, lions roaring by the edge of a kopje. Here, nothing is left to chance: your French-speaking guide shares their passion, you soak up the colours, smells, sounds and lights of Africa, you also meet local communities, and live suspended moments far from mass tourism. This journey offers the same simple promise evoked by the Swahili expression “Hakuna Matata”: worry about nothing, simply live in the moment, marvel, and let yourself be carried by the magic of Tanzania.

Itinerary

Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport and transfer to the lodge located near the airport.

Free dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Breakfast at the lodge. Departure for the Manyara National Park.

From the main entrance, the road first winds through a lush jungle where groups of baboons, numbering around a hundred individuals, are active along the way, where blue monkeys blend into the trees and where the shy bushbucks move cautiously between the shade and light of the undergrowth.

The silver-cheeked hornbills are striking with their huge casques, as if they were about to go to war within the hour.

Full-day safari and picnic lunch under the umbrella acacias.

This park, in the Rift Valley, has an interesting variety of wildlife to observe: elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, impalas and many others. The hippo pool attracts a large number of water birds.

Manyara Park sometimes offers a rare spectacle, that of lions perched, sometimes very high up, in the umbrella acacias. Will you be lucky enough to spot them perched there?

At the end of the day, you will drive to the village of Mto Wa Mbu, if you ask your driver, you can visit the village. (see the video of this village)

Dinner and overnight stay at Ngorongoro Forest Tented Lodge (or equivalent)

  • Stages : The Manyara Park - Karatu
  • Accommodation : Ngorongoro Forest Tented Lodge

Breakfast at the lodge. Departure for the Ngorongoro Crater.

This day will be devoted to discovering this famous crater, considered to be the 8th Wonder of the World ( > watch the video of this place).

The crater is a vast caldera 20 km in internal diameter. It shelters at its centre incredibly rich wildlife, perfectly protected by a 600-metre-high rim.

A special moment: it is one of the few places in Tanzania where you can see the « Big Five »: elephant, lion, rhinoceros, leopard and buffalo.

Picnic lunch by the edge of Ngoitokitok pond.

More than 500 species of birds, resident and migratory, are observed in the crater. Lake Magadi, with its brackish waters, is often frequented by pink flamingos.

Hippos lounge in the freshwater ponds while buffalo take mud baths.

Dinner and overnight stay at the Ndutu Lodge in Ndutu from June to November

  • Stages : The Ngorongoro Crater
  • Accommodation : Ndutu Lodge

www.ndutu.com

Departure for the safari in the Serengeti just after breakfast.

From December to March the programme is adapted to be as close as possible to the migration:

Day 04: Safari in Ndutu and overnight at Ndutu Wildlands Camp (or equivalent)

Day 05: Safari in the Serengeti and overnight at Mbalageti Lodge (or equivalent)

The Serengeti is the country’s second-largest national park (14,763 km2).

Famous for the annual migration of thousands of wildebeest, this park offers magnificent landscapes: the grassy savannah of the endless plains in the south, the wooded and hilly regions in the west, the Kopjes region (granite formations) in the east and the bush savannah in the north.

Packed lunch during the safari.

In these vast plains with their many permanent waterholes, herds of herbivores followed by their predators provide an impressive spectacle.

The Serengeti is so vast that you may be the only ones to witness the hunt carried out by the cheetah, whose favourite prey is Thomson’s gazelle.

After breakfast, depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with one last safari in the Serengeti.

This abundance of wildlife in the northern parks has generated a local economy focused on ecotourism. Tanzania has established protection policies and specific taxation of tourist activities.

Picnic lunch en route.

In the afternoon, pass through the Olduvai region, with the possibility of visiting a Maasai village (optional, to be paid locally)

Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Forest Tented Lodge

  • Stops: Karatu
  • Accommodation: Ngorongoro Forest Tented Lodge

After breakfast, depart for the Tarangire region.

Day safari in Tarangire National Park, considered one of the finest wildlife sanctuaries in the country.

Covering an area of 2,850 km2, it is renowned for its exceptional concentrations of animals between the months of August and January.

The park is home to species that are more difficult to spot and often not found in the other northern Tanzania parks, such as the gerenuk, the lesser kudu, the beisa oryx, the eland and the most sought-after antelope, the greater kudu.

Picnic lunch during the safari.

The park is crossed by a river that never dries up in some places, the Tarangire River.

This park has the highest concentration of baobabs in the world, which punctuate the landscape.

The elephants, very numerous, cut into the bark of these mythical trees to quench their thirst, as these are true water pumps.

At the start of the afternoon, depart for your accommodation.

Dinner and overnight at the Ambureni Coffee Lodge (or equivalent)

  • Stages : Arusha
  • Accommodation : Ambureni Coffee Lodge

After breakfast at the lodge, you will spend a free morning in the city of Arusha to organise on site.

Lunch not included.

After lunch, transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport for your international flight or flight to Zanzibar for the extension.

  • Stages: Kilimanjaro International Airport
