A true wildlife sanctuary in southern Tanzania, the Selous Reserve (now called Nyerere National Park) covers more than 50,000 km², making it one of the largest protected areas on the African continent.
Between 4×4 safaris, cruises on the Rufiji River and walking safaris at sunrise, Selous offers you a unique experience, far from the crowds of the north. There you may encounter elephants, hippos, lions, buffalo and crocodiles, as well as a multitude of birds, in a setting of striking beauty, where savannah blends with flooded plains and semi-dry forests.
This safari is a truly authentic escape, ideal for travellers in search of adventure and a break from it all, wishing to discover a more off-the-beaten-path Tanzania, preserved and spectacular.

Itinerary
Pick-up from your hotel in Zanzibar and transfer to Zanzibar airport.

Pick-up by the Selous Kinga Lodge team and drive to the lodge.
Lunch at the lodge
The Selous Park is divided in two by the Rufiji River, feeding numerous lakes where the animals come to cool off among the hippos and crocodiles. You can therefore observe the many species of water birds, crocodiles and hippos until sunset.
Return to the lodge after sunset.
Dinner and overnight at Selous Kinga Lodge located on the edge of the park
Breakfast at the lodge and departure for a day of safari in Selous National Park.
Hippos are particularly numerous in this reserve. The population is estimated at more than 40,000 individuals. Nile crocodiles lounge lazily along the riverbanks. You will also be able to observe a wide variety of birds: around twenty species of storks, egrets, herons, as well as the great white pelican, ibises, cormorants, lapwings and many others.
You will see the wildlife coming to drink. An ideal setting for photography.

Dinner and overnight stay at Selous Kinga Lodge located on the edge of the park
Breakfast at the lodge, then departure around 6:00-6:30 am for a walking safari with a ranger.
After your walking safari, you will set off for Mtemere airstrip.
