Welcome on arrival at Kilimanjaro airport and transfer to the lodge located close to the airport.
Dinner (not included) and overnight at the lodge
Breakfast at the lodge. Depart for Arusha Park. At the foot of Mount Meru, this small park will give you your first taste of the atmosphere on safari.
You’ll take the lake road in search of giraffes, buffalo and the famous black-and-white Colobus, a monkey found only in this park.
You’ll take a short walk through the park accompanied by a ranger to visit a waterfall on the way up to the first camp leading to Mt Meru (included in this programme).
From the park, when the sky is clear, you have a beautiful view of Kilimanjaro.
Picnic lunch on safari
During your day in the park, you can take a canoe trip on Lake Momela, with its magnificent view of Mount Meru. You’ll be able to get up close and personal with the animals as they come to drink. (optional in this programme)
Option included on this day: you will take a walk, of varying length, in the park (accompanied by a ranger) to the waterfall on the way up to the first camp on Mount Meru.
Return to your lodge in the late afternoon.
Dinner and overnight at Moivaro Coffee Lodge (or equivalent).
Breakfast at the lodge. Depart for the Manyara Park.
From the main entrance, the road winds its way through lush jungle, where groups of baboons, up to a hundred strong, bustle along the path, blue monkeys camouflage themselves in the trees and timid harnessed guibs move cautiously between the light and shade of the undergrowth.
The silver-cheeked hornbills stand out with their enormous helmets, as if they were due to go to war in the next hour.
All-day game drive and picnic lunch under the umbrella acacias.
This park, in the Rift Valley, has an interesting diversity of wildlife to observe: elephants, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, impala and many others. The hippo pond attracts large numbers of water birds. The Manyara Park sometimes offers the rare sight of lions perched, sometimes very high, in the umbrella acacias. Will you be lucky enough to catch a glimpse?
At the end of the day, you will drive to the village of Mto Wa Mbu, where you and the children will visit a local painter. He will work with you to prepare a painting for the children to take home.( > see the video of this village)
Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Forest Tented Lodge.
Breakfast at the lodge. Depart for the Ngorongoro Crater.
This day will be devoted to discovering this famous crater, considered to be the 8th Wonder of the World.
The crater is a vast caldera 20 km in diameter. At its heart lies an incredibly rich fauna, perfectly protected by a 600-metre-high rampart.
An exceptional moment: this is one of the only places in Tanzania where you can see the “Big Five”: elephant, lion, rhino, leopard and buffalo.
More than 500 species of birds, both resident and migratory, can be seen in the crater. Lake Magadi, with its brackish waters, is often visited by pink flamingos. Hippos bask in the freshwater ponds, while buffalo bathe in the mud.
Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Forest Tented Lodge.
After breakfast, departure for the Tarangire region.
Day’s safari in the Tarangire National Park considered one of the country’s beautiful wildlife refuges.
Covering an area of 2,850 km², it is renowned for its exceptional concentrations of animals between August and January.
The park is home to species that are harder to locate and often impossible to find in other parks in northern Tanzania, such as the Gerenuk, lesser kudu, Oryx beisa, eland and the most sought-after antelope, greater kudu.
The park is crossed by a river that never runs dry in some places, the Tarangire River. This park has the highest concentration of baobabs in the world, which dot the landscape. Elephants, of which there are many, cut into the bark of these mythical trees to quench their thirst, as they are veritable water pumps.
In the early afternoon, departure for Arusha.

The yellow fever vaccine was reinstated in early 2008. You should allow more than 14 days before your departure. Don’t forget to take your international vaccination certificate with you, as customs officials may ask for it when you enter Tanzania or Zanzibar.
Vaccinations not compulsory but recommended: against typhoid, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, DTP and in certain cases against meningitis A and C, and against rabies (check with your doctor).
Preventive treatment against malaria is essential. Remember to take mosquito repellent with you.
English and Swahili are the two official languages. There are also many African dialects, reflecting the country’s tribal diversity.
Tanzanian shilling: 1€=2600 TSH (January 2019)
For US dollars, remember to take notes issued after 2006 !!!
Since the recent ban on bureaux de change in Tanzania, you can only withdraw Tanzanian shillings from ATMs in Arusha, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar. However, the euro and, more particularly, the US dollar are widely used and may suffice to pay for all your purchases in Tanzania (USD notes dating from after 2006). But be sure to carry small denominations;
If you wish to pay for certain purchases by credit card, you should be aware that additional credit card payment charges will be applied (approximately 4 to 6%).
The current is 230V. The plug is English; an adaptor is recommended.
Apart from the Kilimanjaro ascent, which requires special equipment, the weather is relatively warm all year round. You should, however, bring a jumper and windbreaker for nights spent near the crater or in a bivouac, as well as for stays in July and August, which can be cooler months. It is advisable to wear light trousers in the parks to ensure peaceful cohabitation with certain insects.
You’ll also need light walking shoes, a hat, sun cream, a torch, binoculars and batteries for your camera. Cameras with zoom lenses can be hired.
Please note that for domestic flights, only soft luggage, strictly limited to 15kg, is allowed (including hand luggage)!
It is common practice to tip people who accompany or assist you on your journey. To take your bag to your room, the porter will expect a small tip of TSH 500 (around €30), and the driver guide will expect $20 per day on safari.
