Free dinner and overnight at the lodge
- Stages : Kilimanjaro Airport
- Accommodation : Moyani Airport Lodge (or equivalent)
Breakfast at the lodge. Departure for Manyara National Park.
From the main entrance, the road first winds through lush jungle where groups of baboons, numbering around a hundred, are busy along the track, where blue monkeys blend into the trees and where the shy bushbuck move cautiously between the shade and the light of the undergrowth. The silver-cheeked hornbills are striking with their huge casques, as if they were about to go to war within the hour.
Full-day safari and picnic lunch under the umbrella acacias.
This park, in the Rift Valley, has an interesting diversity of wildlife to observe: elephants, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, impalas and many others. The hippo pool attracts a large number of water birds. Manyara National Park sometimes offers a rare spectacle, with lions perching, sometimes very high up, in the umbrella acacias. Will you be lucky enough to spot them perched there?
At the end of the day, you will drive to the village of Mto Wa Mbu, if you ask your driver, you can visit the village. ( > see the video of this village)
- Stopover: Karatu
- Accommodation: Ngorongoro Forest Tented Lodge (or equivalent)
Breakfast at the lodge. Departure for the Ngorongoro Crater.
This day will be dedicated to discovering this famous crater, considered the 8th Wonder of the World ( > watch the video of this place).
The crater is a vast caldera with an inner diameter of 20 km. It is home to incredibly rich wildlife in its centre, perfectly protected by a 600-metre-high rim.
A special moment: it is one of the few places in Tanzania where you can see the “Big Five”: the elephant, the lion, the rhinoceros, the leopard and the buffalo.
Picnic lunch by the edge of Ngoitokitok pond.
More than 500 species of birds, resident and migratory, are observed in the crater. Lake Magadi, with its brackish waters, is often frequented by pink flamingos. Hippos lounge in the freshwater ponds while buffalo take mud baths.
Departure for the safari in the Serengeti just after breakfast.
From December to March the programme is adapted to be as close as possible to the migration:
Day 04: Safari in Ndutu and overnight at Ndutu Wildlands Camp (or equivalent)
Day 05: Safari in the Serengeti and overnight at Mbalageti Lodge (or equivalent)
The Serengeti is the second largest national park in the country (14,763 km2). Famous for the annual migration of thousands of wildebeest, this park offers magnificent landscapes: the grassy savannah of the endless plains in the south, the wooded and hilly regions in the west, the Kopjes region (granite formations) in the east and the bush savannah in the north.
Picnic lunch during the safari.
In these vast plains with many permanent water sources, herds of herbivores followed by their predators offer an impressive spectacle. The Serengeti is so vast that you may be the only ones to witness the hunt carried out by the cheetah, whose favourite prey is Thomson's gazelle.
- Stops: Serengeti
- Accommodation: Serengeti Wildlands Mobile Camp (or equivalent)
After breakfast, depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with one last safari in the Serengeti.
This abundance of wildlife in the Northern parks has generated a local economy focused on ecotourism. Tanzania has established protection policies and a specific tax on tourism activities.
Picnic lunch en route.
In the afternoon, pass through the Olduvai region, with the option to visit a Maasai village (optional, payable locally) (> see the video)
After breakfast, depart for the Tarangire region.
Day safari in Tarangire National Park, considered one of the country's finest wildlife sanctuaries.
Covering an area of 2,850 km², it is renowned for its exceptional concentrations of animals between August and January. The park is home to species that are harder to spot and often not found in the other parks of northern Tanzania, such as: the gerenuk, the lesser kudu, the beisa oryx, the eland and the most sought-after antelope, the greater kudu.
Picnic lunch during the safari.
The park is crossed by a river that never dries up in some places, the Tarangire River. This park has the highest concentration of baobabs in the world, which punctuate the landscape. Elephants, in very large numbers, strip the bark from these mythical trees to quench their thirst, as they are true water pumps.
In the early afternoon, depart for your accommodation.
