Visiting the city of Tanga
The best way to visit the city is by bike. Of course, you have the option of hiring one there.
From the Raskazone peninsula south of Tanga, you will find some ruined alleyways, then others lovingly maintained, as well as a magnificent Art Deco villa that bears witness to the glorious days of Tanga’s sisal trade.
You will find typical architecture of the Indian Ocean coast, with many buildings in an old Arab style and majestic colonial mansions where the highest members of the British Empire once lived.
If you move a little away from the city, you can explore the mangrove forest, the Amboni caves and sublime beaches.

Access to the region is relatively easy, as there are several routes possible:
- From Mkomazi National Park, allow 4-5 hours
- From Pangani it is about 50km
- From the Usambara Mountains it takes about 3 hours by road (110km)
- From Bagamoyo it takes about 4.5 hours by road
- From Dar Es Salaam it takes about 6 hours by road
