Visiting the park
Today, Udzungwa National Park is a benchmark in East Africa; indeed, it has the second greatest biodiversity of all Tanzanian national parks and even Africa, thanks to the richness of its flora.
Its extraordinary vegetation includes more than 2,500 plant species, including 160 medicinal plants
The animals present
In this breathtaking region, you will have the privilege of seeing elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, hyenas, wild dogs, eland, baboons and sable antelopes, enough to bring back magnificent photos of your safari in Tanzania!
In addition to these animals, you will also have the chance to spot six species of primates, including two endemic ones, namely the Iringa or (Uhehe) red colobus monkey and the Sanje crested mangabey.
For birdwatching enthusiasts, this will be paradise for you, as the area has recorded more than 400 bird species, including four found only in this park. So, get ready to observe forest partridges, storks, green-headed orioles, rock vultures, crested eagles, forest kingfishers, silvery-cheeked hornbills and hornbills.

When to visit the park
From March to May, the trails of Udzungwa National Park become truly slippery terrain… That is why it is often advisable to visit the park during the dry season between June and November.
How do you get to Udzungwa National Park?
Udzungwa National Park is located to the south-east of Mikumi National Park: it is common for travellers to take advantage of this to visit both parks.
It is possible to reach Udzungwa National Park by all types of transport.
The park is located around 350km from Dar es Salaam.
- By plane: From Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar or Mikumi, there are regular flights
- By car: From Dar es Salaam, allow 5 hours’ drive to Udzungwa
- By train: from Dar es Salaam to Udzungwa there is the Tazara train, which leaves every Tuesday and Friday at around 2 pm

Opening Hours and Entrance Fees for Udzungwa:
Udzungwa National Park is open to the public from Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm. It is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
Park entry tickets are valid for 24 hours.

- 10$ for children between 5 and 15 years old
- Free for children under 5 years old
