The Usambara Mountains consist of two mountain ranges covered in tropical forest: West Usambara and East Usambara. They are 110 kilometres long and reach an altitude of 2,290 metres.

When to visit the Usambara Mountains?

The rainy season, which runs from March to May, is the best time, as the paths become muddy, making trekking impossible.

That is why we advise you to visit the Usambara Mountains between June and October; this is when the air is clearer.

You have the option of choosing several departure points:

  • From Tanga it will take around 3 hours by road
  • From Arusha it will take around 8 hours by road
  • From Moshi it will take around 6 hours
