Why visit the Ndutu region?
SAFARI À NDUTU
The Great Migration in Tanzania is THE phenomenon every traveller dreams of seeing. Going on safari in Tanzania in the Ndutu region may be essential for observing this great migration. From late December to mid-March, you can find two million animals, peacefully grazing on these plains between the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park. It is the calving season, a truly unmissable spectacle!
THE ANIMALS OF THE REGION
In the Ndutu region, you will find wildebeest and zebras in abundance! Several species of antelope join the herd. You can also admire giraffes and elephants. All these herbivores naturally attract their predators: lions, leopards, hyenas, cheetahs, caracals and servals will offer you some of the most breathtaking hunting scenes!
THE FLORA PRESENT
The Ndutu region is known for its vast plains of short grass. It attracts the great migration in the birthing season because it is very rich in nutrients and therefore well suited to raising young herbivores. In addition, short grass allows adults to see predators approaching and anticipate them in order to protect their newborns.
Beyond its vast plains, there are woodlands and large granite rocks called kjopes, on which lions like to rest.
But Ndutu also attracts many animals thanks to its lake. Lake Ndutu and Lake Masek are two shallow twin alkaline lakes. Ndutu is therefore the famous savannah shown in films. Vast plains, acacias, kjopes and waterholes. An animal’s dream.
